Wanted, a poem.
I keep saying I’m done,
but I let you pull me back in.
My mistake.
Knowing what I know now,
I would’ve let you pass me by.
I wish I had.
You knew how to say
all the things I wanted to hear.
But you lied.
Like a fiddle, you played me,
then sent me on my way.
Never again.
A prior version of me
would’ve seen what I couldn’t see.
I’ve lost it.
I’ve been wracking my brain,
sifting and sorting through the pain,
seeking truth.
How did I allow this?
Why would I ever let you do this?
I know better.
You found me at my lowest,
my most rejected and sad.
Desperate.
Not even for love, but connection.
When I “needed” to feel wanted,
desired.
But now it’s clear,
What I want is something
you can’t give me.
If I had realized it sooner,
I could’ve saved myself the grief.
The headache.
I showed my true colors,
I was honest with you.
Not you.
You care for yourself,
and yourself only.
Never me.
You left me used, discarded.
You got what you wanted,
but not me.
My heart can’t take anymore.
All of this rejection has left me sore.
Aching.
I’ve never felt as unwanted,
as I have felt this year.
I’m done.
This time I mean it.
If nothing else, you’re the proof.
I’m better alone.
I thought if I kept looking,
I’d find someone, like me, who loves
Wholeheartedly.
But now, it’s clear to see,
No one will ever love me,
Like I love me.
